Questions and
Answers on USP Chapter 797 with Clyde Buchanan:
-
Question B29: Equipment
- How should one verify the accuracy on automated
compounding devices (ACD) for parenteral nutrition (PN)
compounding?
-
Answer B29:
Initially, the ACD is tested for its volume and weight
accuracy. Additional tests of accuracy should determine
the content of certain ingredients in the final volume
of the PN (e.g., dextrose, potassium, calcium). Such
tests should be performed regularly (e.g., daily) for
ACD volumetric precision by the use of validated
laboratory tests, refractometer for dextrose, and/or
calculated total PN weight for all additives combined.
